Viewing: When clicking on the .xls
files below, Netscape will force the files to be downloaded first (this is
true whether you click open it or save to disk) while Internet Explorer in
essence only allows the open it option and indeed
the files will be viewed in the Browser. For student purposes, either
approach is ok, as long as they can ultimately see the open
file.
Important: In opening one of these files, you will get a message saying that the file contains macros and do you want to enable the macros. Click yes. The macros are for running the buttons that control parameter values. Design: All sheets have the same general format. Graphical material is at the top and in most cases the student can view and control the graph movie ignoring the numbers and the model that generates the movie. No attempt is made, however, to hide the model. It is readily available to the student by scrolling down. In some cases the student will benefit from looking at the numbers, for example in the PPF module. Mac versus PC users: For an approach that is truly cross platform, select the version of the file that has "forms" at the end of the title, as in "forms.xls." If you click on the control button(s), you can advance the graphs. This works on the Mac and the PC. However, if you hold down the control button, the data in the table advances while the graph remains static, until the button is released. To have the graph move while the control button is held down, use the version of the file that has the shorter name, without the "forms.xls" at the end. This gives a truer animation, but this version works only on a PC.
